What to do in Seattle

Seattle is a city teeming with surprise and there are many activities to enjoy if you are in the city. Right from a boat trip thanks to the Centre for Wooden boats to the Farmer’s market, there is something for everyone. Although, the city itself is always bustling with a lot of activity, there are also some serene spots such as the Vashon Island where you can plan a quiet escape. It’s a long tradition dating back a quarter of a century wherein volunteer staff will take you out to the water. It’s a great way to soak in and enjoy your day. It’s one of the free things that you can enjoy in the city and is a shining example of the city’s generosity.

The University of Washington is always open to the public and has many hidden areas where you can enjoy. You can also try a bit of canoeing here and enjoy the majestic beauty of this university.

If you are in Seattle, then you must make it a point to board the water taxi. The trip offers some great panoramic views of the city and it is an unforgettable experience.

Vashon Island

One full day is required to visit Vashon Island. You can enjoy yoga here or simply relax at the beach. It’s a surprisingly quiet place and doesn’t get too many visitors making it a perfect place for relaxation.

Kubota Garden

Kubota Garden is an often ignored but an amazing tourist spot. It has been converted into a city park and this great 20 acre region is the perfect blend of Japanese design and western plants. There is a lot of thematic plant life on display and you can enjoy the park while taking a stroll or simple relax on the garden. The place is full of different native plants and it can serve as a quick Botany lesson.

Most museums in Seattle charge a fee but it’s free on first Thursday of each month so make sure you time your visit to coincide with the free days. There are many museums which you can check out in Seattle such as the Museum of Flight, Art Museum etc.

Two places worth visiting are the Pike Place market and the Ballard Farmer’s market. The place becomes very crowded after noon so time your visit appropriately. It is one of the best known shopping centres in Seattle and you can find fresh fish, flowers and it is also the best place for grabbing a quick meal.

This festival celebrates the folk life and is held annually in Seattle. There are many performers who represent many cultural groups and you can also get a taste of the city’s culture by blending yourself in the crowd. Lots of food is available and if you are a food buff, then it’s the perfect place to be.
